Work has commenced on the new Morrisons supermarket in Dalkeith as the company looks forward to opening its first store in the town.
Robertson Group – the infrastructure, support services and construction group – has won the contract to deliver the new store, which is planned to open in Spring 2014 and will create in the region of 200 new, local jobs.
The supermarket chain was granted full planning permission earlier this year to build a new 41,000 sq ft store, which includes Morrisons ‘Fresh Market’ offering, including butcher, baker, fishmonger and fresh food counters and customer cafe, as well as a modern, innovative design, on the former bus depot site
Speaking on behalf of Morrisons, Development Executive Richard Bakes, said: “We are delighted to have secured Robertson Group to help us bring Morrisons ‘Fresh Format’ to Dalkeith. They are a great company with an excellent track record and we look forward to serving the residents of Dalkeith next year.”
